651.0. ""Emergency Shortage of Network Chips"" by WRKSYS::INGRAHAM (Andy) Wed Feb 19 1997 10:49
A few weeks ago, I got a written memo stating that certain DEC network
chips are being emergency-transitioned from the South Queensferry fab
to fab 6 in Hudson.
Motorola, current owner of the South Queensferry fab, lost the recipe
for making these chips.
The affected chips are said to be:
Tulip2 21040 (21-40593-03)
Tulip3 21041 (21-40756-01)
Fasternet3 21140 (21-43864-01)
Twinet 21142 (21-43915-10)
They all must change to different part numbers, and there are subtle
differences between some of the old and new parts.
Some of the parts may also require external circuit changes.

| The following are parts that FAB6 has been making for a while.
Tulip2 21040-AB (21-40593-05)
Tulip3 21041-PA (21-40756-03)
Tulip3 21041-TA (21-40756-21)
Fasternet3 21140 (21-43864-02)
Twinet2 21143 (21-44085-xx)
These parts are all made in our CMOS5L process. SQF would make these
in our CMOS4S process.
