| ... Another neat hack which the 32 bit OS people use is to get VLM is
yo have a filesystem which is only in memory and require that the DB
people use lseek() and read() and write() to access it. This costs a
copy of course...

+ DG NUMA LAUNCH DELAYED - AGAIN
Anyone holding their breath for the launch of Data General
Corp's Non Uniform Memory Architecture NUMA-on Pentium Pro
boxes will have turned blue before now - but the launch has
been put back yet again (CI Nos 3,097, 3,081). The servers are
now expected to be announced in the US and Europe
simultaneously in early June. The company has said before that
it would rather be right first time than simply first - NUMA
rival Sequent Computer Systems Corp claimed to have shipped to
50 customers by January this year. The delay this time around
is said to be due to nothing more than finding a suitable date
for the launch. It also looks as if the company's ThiinLine
business unit is going to be a little late with its Thiin
Server and Information Server launches (CI No 3,090). These
were supposed to be in "Spring" - but spring will have well and
truly sprung by the time they see the light of day: the company
is saying only the announcements will be after the June NUMA
ones. Thiin Server is a no-maintenance device for serving thin
clients.
