If anybody has some surplus paperbacks they would like to put to good
use, there are some marines sitting in the sand who have asked for
some reading material. It doesn't have to be great literature, but you
better rip off the cover if it has anything that might offend Saudi
sensibilities, like bosomy regency damsels, etc. Also, better hold
    onto anything by Salmaan Rushdie.

What a good idea, no doubt the guys are probably bored out of their
minds, especially with the heat. We could write to them, and remind
them of how cold it is the UK eta eta

Where do we go to find an address to write to.

    Dustie,

How about the Captain's address given in the base note?

No doubt the Sun newspaper is doing something along these lines also.

    Ok,

133.4A Best Kept SecretUSCTR1::RTRUEBLOODRollyn Trueblood DTN 297-6553Wed Nov 28 1990 18:0037
There is a best kept secret you should advise your friend to seek out. The
US Army has a Recreation Services Support Center (USARSSC) located in
Aschaffensburg (am Mainz), Germany. It is a supply depot which accepts funded
requisitions (and for excess equipment - unfunded requisitions) for
recreational equipment. It is a sub-component of First PERSCOM which is
a subordinate headquarters of US Army Europe & 7th Army (USAREUR).

This depot has all sorts of sporting goods within it and also has a library
service. The library service provides book kits on a requisition basis which
are designed for deployed soldiers. Their normal basis of issue is one
kit per company per month. The books within the kit target the entire
educational spectrum and they try to provide sufficient diversification
to satisfy most audiences.

This depot also provides the musical instruments and sound equipment
for the USO tours and other traveling minstrels, has costumes for just
about any play imaginable, and has all sorts of craft & hobby kits too.
They can repair your pool table & even has the ability to install complete
bowling lanes.

Usually they have sufficient baseball equipment to outfit teams from three
divisions, and the same for basketball, soccer, racketball, etc. They have
their own ordering officers so requests for rarer sporting equipment eg.
cricket bats can be fulfilled. Often times you can get excess equipment
from them for the cost of transportation.

To get them to service an organization a formal message needs
to be sent to:

CDR, USARSSC Aschaffensburg FRG //Accountable Officer//

In the body of the message ask for information how to establish an account &
provide the return message address.

The depot has provided tri-service support in the past and knows how to
process allied services' requisitions too.
