| So as not to disappoint .0, here goes:
Well, Malaysia and Singapore, you do understand, are completely
separate soverign entities. In Singapore, we have National Service,
which mean ALL medically normal male citizen have to serve for 24-30
months (depending on your educational qualifications), upon reaching 18
years old. After which, they will be on active reserve for 13 "years",
depending on when their reserve cycle starts. After which, they become
the reserved reserves.
Which implies that almost every male Singaporean are activated for 7-40
days of reserve service every year. The SAF (Singapore Armed Forces)
gives us a form, which we can get Digital to fill in and endorse, the
amount of pay we would have receive. SAF will then pay that amount to
us, and Digital will deduct that same amount from the paycheck.
What is DEC's policy? I don't know as there isn't a choice really.
Everybody does it, and there is no way DEC can refuse us leave. The
best it can do is to write in to appeal for deferment.
Malaysia has a regular Army, so I don't think they have reserves.
Perhaps someone from the MSA office would like to comment.
