78.0. "TA film star." by PEKING::NASHD (Whatever happened to Capt. Beaky?) Wed Mar 14 1990 07:44

Taken from Soldier magazine 19th Feb

TA Corporal Linda Outterside serving with the Royal Army Pay Corps
has been chosen to appear in the next James Bond film because of
her "personality, Bond film knowledge and ability to handle weapons"

How about that, join the TA and you could become a film star.

Yeah, but this is exactly why wives object to women serving in combat posts...

This months Soldier magazine has an article about a new TV series
starting in the first week of january about a fictional TA regiment.I
believe they were trained by 6LI.

Well who watched it and what did you think?I enjoyed it,but I don't
know what it will do for TA recruitment with a Sergeant like that in
    the show last night...

    Tyrone,

I caught it, thanks for the tip off. Last night it made me want to join
again, then I took the dog for a walk at 07:00 in the freezing cold
    wind and rain ;-)

I thought it was a good start and pretty realistic appart from the fact
that they appeared to have a complete Coy turn out on their drill
night. I also noticed that most of the guy's seamed to be wearing
SAS/Para and other non-issue smocks, tropical trousers etc. ( or are the
TA now being issued with such kit). The producers have done their
homework, most of the bods I was in with spent all their spare cash on
non-issue kit. I cracked up when Eric's mum told Hodge that he had
asked for a SAS sleeping bag for his birthday.

As for Sergeant's we had one that made the one last night look like a
    pussy,

    Loz.

Were the scenes of the training in classrooms accurate?

Did you notice the way our heroes were walking through the woods on
patrol? If it was meant to be very dark they were walking too fast and
noisily, if it was meant to be that light what happened to camoflage?

But not a bad start overall.
