1605.1 | Note 895? | IOSG::ELLIOTTR | Russell Elliott | Thu May 22 1997 13:56 | 4 |
| There's a few recommendations in note 895, but I couldn't see Portland
mentioned. Someone was pleased with Lafford & Leavey though.

1605.2 | Try Key Windows also if you're still looking for quotes | MARVIN::CROWLE | Seek not answers; live the questions | Fri May 23 1997 11:24 | 11 |
| Lafford and Leavey gave me a good quote last autumn to replace most of
the windows in my house, including some fairly complicated bays.
But Key Windows just pipped them at the post, and did an excellent job.
Don't have their number to hand, but will post it here if you are still
interested.
Both the above were much more competitive than Harlequin, who also quoted
for the same job.

| I have just had windows and guttering replaced within the last two weeks by
Quality Direct ....Based in Thatcham. They gave the best Quote, but equal
to the quote from White Rose Windows from Swindon. However they had the better
Quality Windows. When the salesman called , I gave him the ultimation of the
first Quote has to be the lowest....none of this its 7 Grand...but as its
Spring heres a discount of 10% and if you sign now heres another lump off the
price . Cut the crap and give me a bottom line figure. This he did and got the
order.
We are pleased with the windows. The fitter was fast and tidy and made a good
job it. No deposit ...pay them in full once the windows are fitted and your
happy. We paid two days later , once I had time to inspect the work in the
light of day.

1605.4 | 2 down - 1 more to go so far | CHEFS::ALLAN | Lady Golfers Have More Drive | Fri May 23 1997 15:26 | 21 |
| It was Harlequins turn last night, the quote was about 350 lower than
Portland, and I liked the security/locking system on their windows and
the windows themselves.
What seems to be the difference between the others and Portland is that
Portland don't put the metal bar in the surround of the window inside
the plastic. They now use a kind of reinforced plastic, which seemed
very strong and its apparently what they use on their conservatories as
well.
He said that the galvanised steel that other companies use, does
eventually cause discolouring on the plastic as they have to drill
through these rods, bits drop down and eventually these will cause the
plastic to discolour, usually like rust.
Oh well, I'll see what Lafford and Leavey say tonight. Harlequin get
the points for the quickest compared to Portland at the moment.
Update on Tuesday.
