175.0. "SNA gateway and a Brixton 2.1 PU physical unit///" by CSC32::C_BENNETT () Tue Mar 18 1997 15:30

I have a customer who wants to perform function shipping from a
Digital UNIX box to a IBM system running MVS/ESA. The systems are
connected via a SNA Gateway - Encina PPC Gateway. Anyway his
question dealt with 'is this supported?' in the context of the
Brixton PU 2.1 device on the IBM side.

Anyway it appears that SNA components can be configured using other
vendor products - to what extent is this supported?

Hi,

Any chance of getting the customer to describe what he has connect to
what once again. There is some confusion here...

Brixton PU2.1 is part of an alternative (to the Digital supplied components)
SNA product suite. This run on Digital UNIX not on MVS.

Encina PPC Gateway is an optional part of the Encina product set that allow
two phase commit to be handle through CICS. This would
allow distrbuted transactions involving more than one CICS system
communicating over SNA. The Encina PPC Gateway is not available
              on Digital UNIX.

If the customer is doing function shipping from the MVS system to the
Digital UNIX system they do not need the Encina PPC gateway.

CICS for Digital UNIX does not support the Brixton SNA products. Our
CICS product is only integrated with the Digital supplied SNA products.

Assuming I have guessed correct as to what is going on, the customer
will need CICS, the LU62 Server, and either a peer server or a domain
gateway.
