1816.0. "NT 4.0 workstation duplicate sessions" by GIDDAY::WALKER () Fri Apr 11 1997 00:28
Hello all,
Customer has reported a problem which seems to be a fault in the NT 4.0
redirector.
What happens is an NT 4.0 wkstn creates two sessions to the PATHWORKS server,
one as <username> and the other as guest or with the username field empty.
This has been reported several times in the PWV50IFT conference and even
escalated against the VMS server (cfs.49931).
Sample net session output is included below.
At this site it causes a side effect which has not been reported in the
VMS conference. NT 4.0 wkstns regularly find that share connections are
muddled. Customer gave this example:
Client has i: and j: drives connected to PWOSF 5.0g ECO2 server say
to \\pwosf\share1 and \\pwosf\share2 respectively.
Client then makes connection k: to \\pwosf\share3 but when examining
k: sees contents of \\pwosf\share1.
To clear this condition customer can use net session /delete to remove
the extra session from this client. Drive connections revert to normal
at this point.
I am interested to know if engineering is aware of this problem with NT 4.0
workstation?
Is it worth escalating the share swapping problem(which may be restricted to the
OSF server) or should I refer this customer to Microsoft?
Thanks,
Richard Walker.

| Maybe you should also escalate it against Pathworks Digital UNIX
to make sure this will be fixed!
