I have a customer who wishes to use the IPX protocol stack to communicate between his PC clients and an Oracle database running on a Digital UNIX platform. Oracle SQLnet does support IPX as a transport between the client and database server. Would the installation of the PW for Netware product provide this transport stack for such a use or is it in some way limited for file/print usage? X-posted in Oracle notesfile

Here is what I could find for supported protocols at: http://www.oracle.com/platforms/dec/html/unixmat.html > Additional Products Certifications for Digital UNIX > OS version dependency should be derived from RDBMS version dependency. > > Product RDBMS Versions > PG4APPC 3.4 7.1.6,7.3.2 > TG4Sybase10 3.1 7.1.6,7.2.2,7.2.3,7.3.2 > Sqlnet DCE 2.1.6 7.1.6 > TG4DRDA 3.0.17 7.1.6,7.2.3 > TCP protocol All releases > DECnet protocol All releases > OSI/TLI protocol 7.1.6,7.2.2,7.2.3 > Async Protocol 7.1.6,7.2.2,7.2.3 It looks like IPX/SPX is not included.

According to the folks at the Oracle Alliance Hotline IPX is supported by SQLnet. So it looks like the PATHWORKS for Netware IPX stack will allow us to compete for this business.

> According to the folks at the Oracle Alliance Hotline IPX is supported > by SQLnet. Did they say that the PATHWORKS for Netware IPX transport was specifically supported on the Digital UNIX platform? The statement that "IPX is supported" does not necessarily mean that every IPX implementation is supported on every platform.

Well let me retract that as other folks from Oracle say it is NOT supported. Great to hear that other companies also can't figure it out. Negative answer came from higher up the food chain in Oracle. |
