1766.0. "How to "crack" the pw admin password in digital unix?" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Jarkko Hietaniemi) Mon Mar 03 1997 08:20

My customer has a curious problem: their Pathworks administrator
password has been lost and now they would like to do some administrating...
Is the 'admin' password stored somewhere in the disk (of course,
preferably readable only by root...) so that they could
either a) clear it b) change it c) see it and use it?

That won't work on 6.x.
As root, you can get into pwadmin as administrator without the password
and make administrative changes.

You can shutdown the server, and run pwsetup configure again.
It will ask you if you want to change the administrators password.

<Under root on PDC.>

net password administrator whateveryouwant newpassword
Error 86 has occurred.
The network password entered is incorrect.

Ok now call pwadmin with no password then
<accounts> <users> <Administrator> then zoom and go to password:
and type what you want as a new password.
Nice no?

My remark is
we can or we cannot but the same thing for net cmd and pwadmin must be true.

Jean-Pierre
