1759.0. "Validation on different IP subnet" by MLNOIS::16.192.1.203::SELVATICI (Luca, DIGITALian, SBU Milan) Mon Feb 24 1997 04:56

Hi all,

Situation: Dunix 4.0a and PW Unix 6.1 on an ASV 1000
4/200; this system has two Ethernet cards on tu0 and
tu1. tu0 has x.y.14.1 IP address and tu1 is x.y.142.1 IP.
During "pwsetup kernel" we have setup PW Tcp/Ip
Netbios over tu0 AND tu1 and the PW server comes up
Ok.

Problem: PW client (v5.0, rather old) are logged-on and
validated only if they belong to x.y.14 subnet and
those belonging to x.y.142 get the known message
"logged on but not validated..."; we've also tried to
use lmhosts, even giving two different Netbios names
for each card without luck.

>>>Is there a way to have the PCs validated by their
respective subnet/cards? If so, How?

Thanks, Luca

    If they're using a real-mode redirector, no. LAN Manager 2.2 did it's
NETLOGON request via a broadcast. Note that they ARE logged on, just
    not validated.

If the clients are using WfW (with the updated redirector available on
an NT CD), 95, or NT, then you can use LMHOSTS with #DOM to tell the
    clients where the PDC is.

Note: It has to be a 6.x server.

My expectation was that the Full LM clients on x.y.14
subnet get validated by the server combination
card/x.y.14 subnet and the Full LM clients on x.y.142
subnet get validated by the x.y.142 over the second
Ethernet card telling to "pwsetup kernel" to map
two different IP addresses over two different Ethernet
cards.
Re .-1; if it's only possible with NO pathworks client
we've to loose 350 PW client licenses and migrate all
the clients.
Re .-2; we're using PW Unix 6.1

Ciao, Luca

My expectation is that the Full LM clients on x.y.14
subnet are validated through the tu0 server card on x.y.14
subnet and the Full LM clients on x.y.142 subnet are
validated by the second server card (tu1) over x.y.142.
We've told to "pwsetup kernel" to map Netbios
Tcp/Ip on the two Ethernet cards; each of them has its own
IP address.
It does NOT work!
Re .-1; if it's only possible with NO pathworks client
we've to loose 350 PW client licenses and migrate all
the clients (or must wait for Pathworks32-enhanced redir!?).
Re .-2; we're using PW Unix 6.1

    >(or must wait for Pathworks32-enhanced redir!?).

PATHWORKS does not provide any redirector for Win95/WfW/NT

    >validated by the second server card

This is the real question -- does PW/dUNIX v6 run the NETLOGON service
    on more than one adaptor?

Hello,

(That's the real feature needed above the "Tcp/Ip NetBios over more
than 1 card support"...)

Does anybody know the answer?
