1756.0. "Many NET3100 Errors occured" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Olaf Sammler) Thu Feb 20 1997 05:58

Hi !

We have a Customer with Pathworks V5.0f(LAN Manager) on Digital Unix V3.2c.
From time to time the connections from clients to the server were very slow
and applications on clients sleep in, crashes or timed out.
The only information we found are NET3100 errors in the servers error log.
Two types of errors are shown:

 - NET3100 The operation failed because a network software error occured
          Invalid ufs_getdents(/proc, 1024, 1024).

 - NET3100 The operation failed because a network software error occured
Listener Task: Mismatched session sequence numbers

Are these messages relevant for our problem ?
About the second message I have found some information in the notes
conference. What means the first type of message ?

Can anyone help ??

                             Thanks, Olaf.

Hi Olaf,

ufs_getdents is a routine to Get Dir entries on UFS filesystem.

Your PC client is trying to access /proc filesystem and as
this special FS has NOT really the same structure than UFS the routine
can't read correctly the entries.

It certainly makes an access throught the share C$ or at worst on share
ressource mounted on /proc.

As you have already understood access /proc is not recommended
anyway the files on /proc dir are displayed on PCs and the error you mentioned
is reported.

Same behaviour on any ECO up to V5.0G-ECO2.
I'm not sure it will be part on any next ECO patch.

Last thing V5.0f is quit old now you should think to upgrade. :-)
This can help for the other error you 've mentioned.

Hope this help.
Jean-Pierre
