1749.0. "How to Promot Pathwork 6.0 BDC to PDC" by ALFSS2::JONES_J () Fri Feb 14 1997 16:10

    Hi,

    	I need some help promoting a Pathworks for Unix 6.0 BDC to PDC.
    The NT PDC died and has to be rebuilt. Customer wants to promote the
    6.0 server to PDC then rebuild the NT and bring it back up as BDC.
    	In the pwadmin utility on the Unix 6.0 server the Promot to Primary
    Domain Contrller is greyed out. It is also greyed out from a NT
    workstation running SRVMGR from the ASTOOLS share on the pathworks 6.0
    server.
    	Page 5-31 of Pathworks for Digital UNIX (Advanced Server) Systems
    Guide says this works.

    	Any and all help would be higly apprediated.

    				Tks,

The option only exists if it can see the PDC.

Try from a unix box the command 'net accounts /role:primary'

This may or may not work.

1749.2How to promote Pathworks 6.0 bdc to pdcALFSS2::JONES_JTue Feb 18 1997 10:4313
    Thanks Allan for your reply. I had allredy tried the net accounts
    /role:primary and we get the error "the server is replicant".

    I have spoken with WNT support and they is is possibe to promote a BDC
    to PDC if the primary has gone away with a NT 3.51 or NT 4.0 server. I
    am trying to find out if the Pathworks 6.x server code will also allow
    this funtion. From everything I have tried it looks like the answer is
    no.

    Any more or other help would be appreciated.

Hi,

   This should work. What's the output from net accounts?
Are there any other servers in the domain?

    Hi Julia,

    	There are no other servers in the domain.

    	The output from Net Accounts is the role in the domain is backup.

    	When we do a NET ACCOUNTS /ROLE:PRIMARY we get the error "net 2226
    the server is replicant"

1749.5seems to be a bugNETRIX::"[email protected]"UNIX and NT GatewayWed Feb 26 1997 20:0723
Hi

It seems to be a bug and can be easy ly reproduced.
net 2226 the server is replicant means we are only BDC.
Time for IPMT?

With "pure" NT when a BDC can't find a PDC and we want to promote it
to PDC, NT gives an alarm message -something like are you sure because
the data bases could be corrupted after-
If you say YES it will be promoted to PDC.
If later the original PDC comes up in the domain again NT sends an alarm
and the old PDC becomes BDC.

Let us known IPMT results.
Because it can be strongly a problem for users and admin the time that the
original PDC comes up, the UAS CAN'T BE UPDATED I suggest at least level 2.

thanks for the info.
