1725.0. "4 gb copy to NetWare Volume fails" by QBUS::LOVELL (CSC/AT PATHWORKS Support) Wed Jan 29 1997 16:44

A customer is trying to copy a 4 gb file from a DOS pc to a NetWare
volume located on a PATHWORKS for UNIX server. He can copy 2 gigabytes
then gets an error - cannot write block, error 33.

The sale of an Alpha server depends on the 4 gb copy working.

The customer has tried editing NWConfig max_file_size to a size of
6 gb and still the copy fails after 2 gb. Using Sconsole, file
services parameters, to try to set File Size Limit indicates that
16,777,216 is the maximum value. The NetWare System Administration
manual, page 3-16, says that 16 mb is the default and the minimum
    (typo?).

The customer is convinced that there is plenty of room on the volume,
ulimit is unlimited, and that UNIX is not the limiting factor. He also
states that native NetWare servers do not have this limitation. He is
    running the NetWare 5.0B server.

    Any help is appreciated.

Ann,

The problem looks like it may have to do with the dos redirector 2Gig
limit. The free space value is a little mixed up because of the data
type...

To check if this is the case, use a 95 box or an NT and see how you
go with that.
