| The 'member server' role has been removed from the product's
functionality, so unfortunately, we need to be 'primary' or
'backup' and need all the user account information stored.
The code base Pathworks is derived from seems to have dropped
this funcionality.

| Alan,
Can you be more specific. You mean just change domain name in LANMAN.INI,
restart server and it would come up as standalone ???
Is this way of changing role supported ?
Or is standalone mode supported at all ?
Thanks,
Arlene

1712.6 | The proof is in the test | WOTVAX::16.194.208.3::sharkeya | | Fri Jan 31 1997 04:46 | 7 |
| Well, it comes up as a PDC/BDC in its own domain. SO, as far as you are
concerned, its s/alone.
Go on, try it !

| As far as I understand, it's not quite the same.
What one customer required is to have a member server be in a specific domain
without having to have the usernames/groups (specifically without having to
have the ADMINISTRATOR password of the domain) on the PW UNIX server.
They would like to integrate the PW UNIX Server into their NT domain concept
without all the overhead put on the PW UNIX Server.
Any idea how to workaround this issue?

1712.8 | Move away from PW | GIDDAY::CRISOLOGO | | Mon May 05 1997 21:51 | 12 |
| My customer moved away from PW after realizing that he cannot have a "passive
member server". He said his NT domain controller requires the OSF box to be a
member server in its domain and not to ba a Primary server in another domain.
He's running Microsoft's SMS.
Another reason why he moved away is the fussy licensing implementation we have
altho' it has become better in the later releases.
Just thought I'd pass this on.

Arlene
