637.0. "Fonts too bold in VT320 " by PEARS::KARNBAUM () Fri Apr 18 1997 05:02

    hallo,

i have a customer. who has still 14-inch monitors and is complaining
that the fontsize of VT320 terminals is too bold, so that she cannot
    read properly on the screen.
The problem is, that she is using an application on a VAX, that uses
bold characters itself and as the fonts of VT320 are also quite bold
she gets nearly unreadable characters on her screen.
She cannot expand the screen or increase the fontsize, as the monitors
are only old 14 inch monitors.
Also using the option "small fonts" does not help as this scrambles
her complete output on the upper half of the screen.
She says, that there was no such problem with old "sethost" program,
as this probably does not use fonts.
    So my question is:

    1. Is ther any workaround for this problem, schedule fontsize in
vt320.ini or use different fonts as the ones from VT320 ?

    2. Is there any "sethost" like tool in WIN95 ?
(i suggested telnet, but she claims that certain F-keys don't work)

    BTW: it is VT320 V6.0.03 from PW WIN95 1.0a

    Thanks

if upgrading to PW32 is an option for them, PowerTerm has a wider
range of font sizes.

    Walter,

There is a workaround. In the VT320.IN file in the [Colors] section,
there is a BoldState= entry. Change it from 1 to 0. That will turn
bolding off. If you do that, all bold characters will look like
normal characters. If you still want to distinguish bold characters
from normal, go into the Colors Setup dialog box and change the bold
color to something different from the Foreground color.

    Hi Bruce,

i'm sorry i cannot find any entry named 'boldstate'.
Also when entering it under [colors] with a value of 0
    nothing happens.
Is it the wrong keyword or the wrong section ?

    thanks
