348.0. "New IRIS kit location" by JAMIN::LICHTENBERG (Mitch Lichtenberg) Fri Jan 24 1997 12:43

After a long absence, I'm back. I disappeared to the west coast
to join corporate research, and I recently went away for a while
    to get married!

RANGER has disappeared since I was away, it was replaced by
JAMIN::, and the IRIS conference lives here now.

The best place to get IRIS will be on the web - check out:
    http://src-www.pa.dec.com/SRC/personal/mitch/iris.html

for the latest kit and release notes.

You can send me email at [email protected] - it will soon be the best
way to reach me. My new DTN is 543-2288.

    Thanks for using IRIS!

    /Mitch.

Mitch,
A suggestion... you might want to tell people what version they'll get
from your WEB page. Right now there is no way of knowing what you'll pull.

With that said, is the kit on your WEB page truely new or was it the
latest available from the previous distribution location?

	Regards,
		David

    Mitch,

You might also put some verbage in there that tells the uninitiated
that the IRIS kit is a DOS ZIP file so they know what to do with it.

p.s. It appears the name servers with addresses 16.72.112.8 and .9
don't know about this host. Name server at address 16.4.0.6 has it
    however.

Hi Mitch,

I'm getting connection failed - timeout to your URL. Is it working?
I've tried several times, no luck.

   Mitch,

It appears that the URL in both reply 0 & 5 are not reachable from my location in
Connecticut. I can ping the host src-www.pa.dec.com @IP-add 16.4.0.3 but I can't get to it
with netscape. I've tried all variations of the URL via HTTP and FTP still no luck. Is the
node registered correctly with a DNS server and is that IP address correct???

This is a great tool for MCS and putting it on the web is a step in the right direction.
However you should also consider providing a DECNET & FTP pointer as well. This would give
us other options of accessing the kit when your web-site is unreachable for what ever
reason.

  Thanks
  Mike

The admins here insist there's nothing wrong with the web server,
    but it's definitely broken.

    Try the following locations:

    DECnet:

    $ EXCHANGE/NET/TRANS=BLOCK decsrc::"/pub/SRC/mitch/iriskit.zip" IRISKIT.ZIP

    FTP:

    ftp decsrc.pa.dec.com
    ftp> cd /pub/SRC/mitch
    ftp> bin
    ftp> get iriskit.zip

    Capitalization is important.

If you cannot get these files, send me mail at [email protected]

    /Mitch.

  Mitch,

Thanks for your quick response... I was able to access the Zip file via DECnet.
And the exchange copy worked great. However when I attempted to access the file
via FTP I couldn't get past the login section. You may need to enable a guest
account and restrict access to the iris directory.

Use username 'anonymous' instead of 'guest' - that would definitely
    make a difference!
