Hello All:

   I've started work on the driver for the DE500BA card. Currently I have it
rx'ing at both 10mbs and 100mbs. And am in the middle of doing the tx stuff.

Be well

Travis

    Travis,
    	Could you please let me know what progress you made with the DE500
    driver for IRIS. I would greatly appreciate it.

289.5DE500 BA on product ship holdNETCAD::SAWYERTravis SawyerWed May 07 1997 14:0314
Hello:

	Due to some fabrication process problems the DE500BA
has been put on product shipping hold.
The experimental release driver for this card is to be released
with Iris v1.0.60 (contained in the iris3.exe executable).

Not to worry tho -
I'm currently working on a native driver for the DE500XA
So soon we'll have Iris up and running on 100mb nets.

Be well

Travis
289.6What about the DE500-AA?DAVIDF::FOXDavid B. Fox -- DTN 285-2091Thu May 08 1997 10:186
I had heard that the DE500-XA is end-of-life and that the DE500-AA is the
replacement. Will the driver work with that as well?

What's the difference between an -AA/-XA and the -BA?

David:
	Yes, unfortunately the 'XA' is going EOL...
There are a few differences in the driver for each.
The 'BA' uses the DC21143 - a newer cost reduced chip, whereas
the 'XA' uses the DC21140 (I don't have the spec for the 'AA' :(

The driver will not work with the AA (yet?) I am not sure if I'm
slated to build the driver for it (If we can generate enough demand
for it maybe)

The line speed negotiations are different for each card. (as well as
some of the register definitions and uses)

I know _*EVERYONE*_ needs a 100mb analyzer so I'll see what I can
do. When I started working on these drivers I didn't realize
how much Iris is used ;)

Drive on,

Travis

289.8But...DAVIDF::FOXDavid B. Fox -- DTN 285-2091Tue May 13 1997 10:2913
Travis,
	I'm glad you're working on this! All of the systems that we've been
rotating into our testbeds lately ONLY have DE500-AA's! So I hope that you'll
be able to tweek the driver to get it working. Right now, the NDIS driver is
working pretty well. I have a canned setup under Win '95 that automatically
shutsdown Win '95 and starts IRIS under DOS. Works pretty well but takes a
while to boot. I'm waiting with baited breath for Mitch's Win '95 version!

So are you telling me that I should be ordering -BA's at this point? Need to
know asap as I have a few pending orders in the pipe!

	Regards,
		David
289.9Which to buy...NETCAD::SAWYERTravis SawyerTue May 13 1997 10:5723
David:

I'm really not in a position to say which card to buy...
The -BA is on product ship hold, its fate who knows...
I believe that the -AA's are going to be the ones that
are going to be manufactured (I should be able to
find out today).

You can check the NOTED::ETHERWORKS conference for the
best info. I'm really not in the loop for all of that
type of info. I'll try to find out today if some of
my cycles will be put into writing the -AA driver.
(We have Gigabit Ethernet coming up too ;)

I too am waiting for WinIris, I may be helping
Mitch write the app (I always wanted to learn MFC !?!)

289.10Thanks!DAVIDF::FOXDavid B. Fox -- DTN 285-2091Tue May 13 1997 15:5110
    Hi!
    	FYI... just looked up the chip on the -AA in the installation
    guide. The book says the -AA has a DECchip 21140A while the -XA has a
    DECchip 21140.

    	I've got -AA's on the orders so if that's what is shipping then
    that is what we'll get.

    	Thanks!
