400.0. "Book: "Win your Child Custody War"" by QUOKKA::11773::CASEY () Tue Jul 16 1996 10:20

Anybody read the book "Win your Child Custody War" by
    C. Hardwick. I found out about it on the internet. It looks like
a great book but it goes for $80.00. Anybody hear of it or use
    it ? Thanks.

Check the public library and see if they have a copy. I have not
read the book, I have read others. Most I have read others, but
for the life of me I cannot remember the titles right off the bat.
Most I've read are not really road maps, but do contain a few bits
    and pieces that are useful.

    Kathy,

I haven't read this but there are a lot of good divorce books that cost
far less, typically $10-$20. I read a number with different emphasis and
would recommend that anyone involved in a divorce does the same. There
isn't much in your life this important so find out all you can and don't
    just rely on a lawyer.

I am firmly committed to a form of joint custody unless there are very good
reasons to suggest otherwise. If you set out to win sole custody, i.e.
effectively take someones child away from them, then expect trouble.

IMHO taking children away from one of the parents is THE cause of divorce
problems and subsequent issues. Both sides advocating why they are the
right parent - neither side worrying about the impact on the kids.
