Anyone notice an extra buck taken outta their paycheck above and beyond the court ordered amout to be garnished. This really gets my hair up! I gave noone any reason to beleive I could not voluntarily meet my support obligations. I had garnishment imposed on me. And now It seems I'm being held accountable for the "added administrative cost" to my employer for the imposed garnishment! I haven't been able to get an answer from payroll so I thought I'd see if anybody else could verify that my speculations are true!

Yes, this is true. I read in Steve's court order that his company could take no more than $1 per week out of his check to cover their admin. expenses. Laura

Thanks Laura, Just one more example of abuse of NCP's. Next year it'll be $2... and the year after that... It's not the money, it's how they go about getting it that pisses me off!

First of all, where are you located?? And is this a across-the-board agenda. Or is it only allowed in certain states. BTW, I live in MASSACHUSETTS CP - LESLIE

They're taking out the extra buck in Mass. My husband received notice that this was going to happen to his check for the child support he pays. The notice states: > The amount withheld and paid for your particular order will remain > the same. The additional nominal fee is being withheld by Digital, for > the cost of administration, in accordance with State and Federal Law. He received this notice back in July, it came from Digital Payroll. I would much rather see the $52 per year going to the children then to Digital for "the cost of administration". So, how does one go about getting the garnishment changed? I'm assuming it's a court order that is necessary. We're still looking into this, if I find any way around it I'll post it. Does anyone know the laws around garnishment? Is it something that MUST be done? Back when my husband first got divorced, I don't think it was a mandatory thing, but it was a "recommended" solution and he agreed to it.

Letss see... 52 weeks, at $1.00 per week. And how many NCP folks there in PRM? Sounds like the state is going to again make some money off the sweat of the working class. Too bad yha cannot go on strike like the baseball teams.... :) |
