220.0. "Stealing Thunder" by OK4ME::PILOTTE () Tue Jul 21 1992 07:58

I have a situation that seems petty but it sure bugs me! My hubby and I have
been married for almost 5 years, second time for both of us. His daughter lives
with her mother and visits regularly. The situation I have is that her mother
tries to steal our thunder at every turn. For example; when my hubby and I
were planning to be married we spent some time planning it, about 6 months.
Two weeks before our wedding her mother decides to get married. Another time
when we spoke with her about a graduation gift for the daughter we were going
to buy her a 10-speed bike. One week before she graduates jr high she buys her
a 10-speed bike. Now that we are building a home and almost done (yea!) she is
now looking to buy a new home!
I guess that I should be flattered that she is copying what we do but it sure
is irritating.

Call it flattery. Remember that IF she does something on an impulse
like getting married. She will be working on her second divorce, where
you are still going to be happy married. Smile, and remember to be kind
to her, for it sounds like she is mentally challenged.:)

I agree with George. If she's doing all this stuff on impulse, she's
probably setting herself up for a big fall down the line. Also, I'd
    stop telling her my plans.

On a nasty note ( ;^) ) you could set her up. Tell her you are
planning a vacation to Europe or somewhere. Then after she hops
the nearest Concord you can tell her that you've decided that it
is more sensible to stay home and take the kids camping instead.

Thanks Fred, and I will also second Freds plans of giving miss info
that can be costly.:) She could possibly spend herself out of custody
    too.:)
