219.0. "Tort Reform" by CSC32::HADDOCK (I'm afraid I'm paranoid) Fri Jul 17 1992 13:53

I had somewhat of a "revelation" a couple days ago while watching
the Democratic Convention. They did a piece on an "average"
"middle-class" couple. He a coach at a small college, she a lawyer.
He was vacillating between Bush and Perot. She was absolutely pro
Democrat and absolutely hateful towards Dan Quayle. Saying things
like "He can't even spell potato". For myself I thoght the "potato(e)"
incident was somewhat humorous, but not realy deserving of the hatred
with which she was lambasting Quayle.

Later, one of the commentators ( I was channel hopping, so I don't
recall which one) commented that *lawyers* were a big constituency
of the *Democratic* party, and lawyers tended to be very anti-
Quayle because Quayle is about the only politition advocating
any form or tort ( legal system) reform.

I now recall that a few months back that Dan Quayle spoke before
the National Bar Association, and after his speach about the
need for tort reform, some up-t-up in the orgaization got up and
lambasted Quayle with sometiing like "that's the stupidist thing
    I ever heard of".

So whaterver else Quayle is or is not. He seems to be the *only*
politition acvocating any *fix* of the parasitic legal system, and
if the only thing they can find to lambast him with ( I know--there
have been others ) is his spelling then Dan and I have a lot in
common ( spelling wise that is ;^) ).

that it's needed. If anyone else has any sepcifics, I'd also like
    to hear them.
