Your comments would be appreciated please on what climbers perceive to be the most innovative changes to the climbing scene over the last five year. i.e changes to hardware, ropes, boots, cothing, indoor climbing, competitions etc This is to help me with a short presentation I would like to put together. Thanks in advance. Jean

The biggest change here is the demise of this file :-), for several reasons : (1) More than half of DEC is gone, particularly in climbing areas like CO. (2) The remaining population is older, and so they climb less. (3) VMS is dying, and notes files are dying with it. (4) What climbers there are, say little. (5) Because Notes is character cell, and much climbing communication is best done with pictures, the switch to the web is particularly attractive to climbers. This thing is headed for byte heaven, imho. bb

Thanks for you reply, you have confirmed my suspicions re all the notes conferences. The web is wonderful with lots of stories and pictures, but how does one get to ask specific questions to find out specific information??? Thanks again Jean

If you have netscape, you can do your own browsing. There's TONS of stuff. Try http//www.climbing.com (homepage of Climbing Magazine). Or try the REI or EMS pages, or the AMC. There's links all over the place. The best homegrown related homepage is surely Dave Metsky's, which also links lots of places. See the ::HIKING conference for details. bb |
