Changes for 1997 in cams. The engineers have been busy this year !!
Wild Country has completely redesigned their units, and renamed them.
Rigid Friends are bow Forged Friends. Flexible Friends are now Technical
Friends and have been extended to 3.5 and 4, making a full set 9 pieces.
The new design has a funny "ratchet" type lock in the fully extended
position, the teeth on the large pieces extend to more of a circle.
Camalots has also extended, adding a 3.5 and 4.5. The latter has the
reduced strength rating of the #5 - 12 kiloNewtons. As always, Camalots
have the biggest range, heaviest weight, highest price, and the unique
powerful double axle construction.
Metolius has changed their sizes. There is now a Metolius "double-zero"
TCU that goes down to about 9 millimeters. Some of the other pieces have
changed their range. There's 6 TCU sizes, 10 4-cams.
There is a new smallest Alien, rated at a third of an inch minimum, or
about 8.4 millimeters. Sonow there's 8 Aliens : .33, .41, .5, .75, 1,
1.5, 2, 2.5.
And this year there are two larger Lowe Balls, making a set of 5, from
3 up to 16 millimeters.
There are also some new entrants in the SLCD game, although my store
hasn't got them in stock. You can go broke just thinking about cams !!
