| since they're the ones that'll come after me if I
put a 'wrong' number down, probably would be a good
idea to check with them.

| Just be sure you call them 3 or 5 times so you can use the "most
votes" method to tally the different answers you'll get.

| I would expect that there is an IRS publication on charitable gifts.
Stop by a local office, call for it, or try their web site,
http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/ - they have most forms and publications
online.

| Publication 17 says "you must determine fair market value." It mentions
that "blue books... provide clues for making an appraisal and suggest
relative prices for comparison with current sales and offerings in your
area." I think you'd be safe to pick the highest blue book price, adjusting
for high/low mileage, repairs needed, etc.

217.6 | Car donation done | USCTR1::TROMBLY | | Tue Apr 30 1996 16:20 | 8 |
| I actually donated an old car about two years ago. I still have the
information on it for my taxes so I'll look it up and let you know
(if you still need it). I was a really simple process. They usually
have a "junk yard" in a local area that will come to get the car as
long as you have the title. Anyway, I'll look it up tonight if you
want it.

217.7 | Kidney Car Campaign Info | USCTR1::TROMBLY | | Wed May 01 1996 10:39 | 13 |
| I just brought in the information I had for donating a car.
It was through the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts
and Rhode Island. The Headquarters is located at 180 Rustcraft Road
in Dedham, MA. Their number is 1-800-542-4001. You may want
to refer to the Kidney Car Campaign when calling. They will take
some information from you and set up a pick up sight if one is
needed. The place (usually a junk yard) that takes the car will
call you and also bring you a copy of the book value page. This
is how you'll know what amount to put on your Federal Tax Form.
Hope this helps!
