136.0. "PSA tests approved" by 43GMC::KEITH (Real men double clutch) Fri Sep 09 1994 08:17

I heard on the radio the other day that the government has decided that
the PSA test (for prostate cancer from blood sample) is now accepted as
a legitimate test that the government will pay for.

This is great news! If we get NHC (national health care) will it now be
included like a mamogram or pap smear for women?

Who knows? At the moment, I'd be more concerned about what my private
insurance plan would cover.

I am conserned if we will be able to absorb socialized medical care
for everyone. Reguardless if they work or not. Someones gotta pay for
it. And guess what.... the working class will bear the brunt...again.

We are already absorbing the costs for the medically indigent. We also
subsidize those who can't pay and don't qualify for any of the MIP
plans through higher insurance costs and higher costs to those who are
uninsured but have can pay their bills.

we can't afford such a large non-productive sector.

the liberals herabouts who sport darwin logos on their
cars should be polled about their real thoughts on
    survival of the fittest"..
136.6Mathew Thornton will do PSA test.SALEM::PERRY_WThu Sep 29 1994 07:587
Back to the issue of the PSA test!
Mathew Thornton HMO will pay for the PSA test during a regular
checkup if you ask and insist on having it done. MT will not do the
PSA test unless you ask. I think it costs approx.$70 so they will
avoid the test if they can. The American Cancer society reccomends
a yearly PSA test for men over 50.
