| Hi Louisa,
Personally, the reason that I always pushed the stroller with one hand
and to one side was because the strides I take are longer than the
distance between the handle of the stroller and the bottom of it. In
other words, I always smashed my shins on the bottom of the carriage
when trying to walk directly behind it. Eventually we do catch on to a
less painful way! 8*)
The only other thing I could possibly think of is... It's a "guy"
thing! 8*)

| I also figured that .1 was the right reason why... it is obvious to
anyone pushing a baby carriage that if you step a bit fast it is easy
to hit the bar between the back wheels... it happened to me many times
and I am a woman... (lately enjoying taking my grand-son for nice walks in
his stroller)

| Standing at 6'2" its tuff to wheel around a stroller and not step on
the back of the unit. I wish they would make tele-scopic handles for
these things so to adjust to the height of the pusher.:)

Are those the three-wheel jobbies that runners use to bond with their
kids? You can work up a real head of steam with one of them.

| Do any manufacturers do anything with this? I went to our local
Mothercare and asked for kit that a six foot four father could drive.
Alas everything was built for universal mother number one who seems to
be no more that five two with a stride rather under a yard.
Another reason to walk with the "male" style is that child number one
prefers to walk holding hands, rather than tubing.

The baby joggers that Rah was talking about do a pretty good job, but
they are pricy. We gave up and the baby rides in a back or front pack
so there are no issues with stride length. I am to tall and walk to
briskly for most strollers, and I can't keep up with Frank when he is
on the move.

| This probably belongs in parenting, however
the Right Start Cataloge has attatchments that you can put
on carriages to exten the handles for "taller" people.
My hubby is 6'2" and he has a real tough time pushing the stroller, he
also walks along side of it so he can avoid the bruises on his legs :-)

| I think that Tom is right in .1. I am a short man of 5'5". I pushed the
stroller from behind with two hands. If you are taller, lets say 5"10"
and up your legs would strike the back. Sounds reasonable to me.

| I walk to the side when pushing a stroller. The reason is simple. My
steps are too long and I tend to step into the rear axle. By walking
to the side that problem is avoided, but, since my arms are both the
same length and I am to the side of the stroller that leaves only one
arm long enough to push. So I guess it is a guy thing in that men tend
to be physically larger and thus don't 'fit' many strollers.

| I watched a couple with a stroller last week.
She moved over, letting him push the stroller.
After two steps, he turned the stroller totally
around, facing the other way. He walked ahead
of it, pulling it behind behind him. The baby
was facing the other way "where they had just
been."
She tried different positions-- near him, after
the stroller and facing the baby.
Interesting.
