    Subject: 3 Sue Maker Of Penile Implants

    	SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Three couples sued the largest U.S.
    manufacturer of silicone penile implants, charging the devices are
    ineffective and dangerous.
    	The male plaintiffs said the inflatable devices, widely used as
    a remedy for impotence, caused pain and a loss of feeling. One of
    the men said he has undergone reconstructive surgery.
    	Their wives said defective implants interfered with their sexual
    relations with their husbands.
    	The lawsuit was filed in federal court Friday against
    Minnesota-based American Medical Systems Inc. and its parent
    company, Pfizer Inc.
    	Ken Markowitz, a lawyer for American Medical Systems, did not
    return calls.
    	The lawsuit seeks to represent all buyers of American Medical
    Systems penile implants since they were first marketed in 1973. A
    similar request has already been filed by other lawyers in a South
    Carolina case, said Dan Bolton, a lawyer for the plaintiffs.
    	About 300,000 men in the United States have had penile implants,
    Bolton said.

124.1Interesting case to hold a full jury in...MROA::MAHONEYMon Jun 06 1994 16:449
    Wouldn't be funny to have all plaintifs showing up in court to "submit"
    evidence?
    Whow!
    I am sure the media would NOT want to miss that show!

    Life gets real interesting these days....

124.2 ANY NEWS ON THIS?MROA::MAHONEYWed Jun 29 1994 17:194
    We haven't heard one word on any of those 300.000 "recipients"...
    will it be true that a court will be involved? If true, it might be
    dismissed for lack of interest...

    The trial ought to be a real treat. Where else but an American court
    could three guys be required to submit their penises as evidence. Hope
    CNN carries this one live. Be just like them to resort to the "blue
    dot" for coverage. Sure glad I heard about this before getting that
    1/4 h.p. 12" extender, teeth jarring vibro implant.
