73.0. "Toot toot!" by CALS::DESELMS (Opera rlz) Tue May 25 1993 10:53

This is the note for any accomplishments that you have made (or are about to
make) that you just can't keep to yourself.

Go ahead! Toot your own horn!

---

On Sunday, I was tenor soloist for the Northeastern University Choral Society's
performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah. This was some of the best singing I've
ever done. I sang the crap out of the last aria, "Then Shall the Righteous
Shine Forth."

From page 63 of The Boston Globe, Tuesday, May 25, 1993:

"...And, best of all, tenor James DeSelms brought a collegiate innocence and
unmannered clarity to his work in several arias. And he was the one singer whose
English you could understand without following the text."

I am a happy boy.

Last weekend my daughter graduated from high school. When she came
to live with me four years ago she didn't know if she would be able
to finish high school because she was so far behind. She attended
a private school where they use "programmed learning" for the last
four years. This year she completed approximately 1 1/2 years
work in order to be able to graduated. Graduated silver cord (B+
average) and was the first female from her mother's side of the
family to graduate h.s. She'll be attending college in the fall.

They were kind of miffed that the school wouldn't let them throw
their hats in the air at graduation. I told here it was the
parents that should get to throw their hats in the air :^).

On Sunday I assembled my daughter's new daybed all by myself. Lots of
bolts, washers, and nuts. That sucka is SOLID. (BUT - no more monkeys
jumping on the bed! Says Mom.)

    >.4. If you got that bed together without a lot of "leftover" nuts and
bolts you have done a lot better than I would have. While few will
admit it, I am sure many of us male respondents, envy you not having
a small bag of "extras" at the end.

They supplied 1 extra for each of the pieces. So I added them to my
    stash.

The instructions were dreadful. They had 1 sheet for the spring
frame and a different sheet for the white metal tubing frame. No
instructions about how to bolt the spring frame to the tubing frame.
Smart kid that I am, I figured the rubber washers go between the two
metal frames (to allow some give) and the lock washers go behind the
bolts (to lock in place, natch).

Newly single Mom puts all her tools in the cardboard box from the
toaster! Just the right size. Hah, you say, you got no class lady.
If anyone wants to donate a smart-looking toolbox upgrade, I won't say
    no. :-)

    Lots of bicep flexing,

I received my son's (college freshman) grades last week. Unlike his
older sibling he managed a 3.67 CUM and is on the President's list.
This was just the shot in the arm I needed. I'm proud of HIS
    accomplishment.

Mine on the other hand is keeping to a strick schedule of work and
college night classes. So far I've managed a 3.8 CUM and hopefully
will follow in my son's steps. Or is he following mine? I don't know.
If only I had had the opportunity he is now experiencing. My happiness
is seeing how he appreciates the opportunity and is not wasting it.
What more can a mom wish for?

A few weeks ago, I produced my first pantomime "Cindy and the Dwarf". I
was extremely pleased with myself and my mates as we raised 60 quid for
the local scout group. I shall start giving autographs when it goes to
    London and Broadway.
