| At times, a member of the noting community may wish to enter a note,
either a base topic or a reply, in such a way as to conceal their
identity from those who read the note. Though conference policy
prohibits entries which are not readily identifiable as to authorship,
the moderators have made available a mechanism by which notes can be
submitted for anonymous entry and still satisfy the requirement that
at least one moderator know the author's name.
To enter a note anonymously, choose a moderator from the current list
(use SHOW MODERATORS) and send that moderator the text of your note
along with a suggested title (titles are required for base topics.)
Please also include your full name. The moderator will post your
entry, removing your name. By default, noters who wish to send
mail to anonymous author can do so by writing to the moderator who
posted the note and asking that the mail be forwarded; if you don't
want to receive such mail, please say so.
The moderators will make every effort to prevent disclosure of the
identity of the author of an anonymous note, but please be aware
that there is no "shield law" for moderators and we must comply
with a disclosure request made by our management. However, this
situation has never occurred during the lifetime of this conference.
Anonymous notes should not be used to avoid responsibility for
personal attacks.
|
| One of the conference rules needs a bit of elaboration. This conference is
open to ALL Digital employees, male or female. The conference is not "for"
men, it is "about" men. Women are as welcome to join in the discussions as
men are.
Furthermore, there are to be no restrictions as to what classes of employees
may respond to a given topic (no "men only" topics, for instance.)
|
| The MENNOTES conference is for discussions of topics pertaining to (about)
men. It is open to both men and women.
The following rules are not meant to be all-inclusive; the moderators reserve
the right to use their judgement in applying corporate policies (see note 3)
and their sense of "what is right" to decide the appropriateness of entries.
- The conference is open to all Digital employees. Notes entered
here and the information they contain should not be shared with
non-employees. However, be aware of the possibility that your
note may be read by anyone, employee or not, so be careful of what
you say.
- Be polite. Remember that other noters are people too. If you wish
to argue a position, do it without attacking the other person.
Notes which the moderators consider to be personal attacks will
be removed.
- Read, understand and follow relevant corporate policies related
to participation in this notes conference. See note 3 for a
sample; VTX ORANGEBOOK to see all Personnel policies.
- This conference is for discussions; please do not use it as a
"bulletin board" for advertisments, general announcements, surveys,
etc. (Note 5 may be used for posting announcements of events
that have specific relevance to the theme of the conference.)
- All entries must contain identification of the author. The node
and username from which the note is entered is sufficient unless a
"generic" or group account is used, in which case the author must
include their name in the text or personal-name string. This
rule is in place to satisfy the corporate policy requirement
for accountability. Anonymous entries are available; see a
following reply for details.
- Do not use this notes conference as a platform for attacking other
notes conferences, their moderators or participants.
- If you have a question or a gripe about the manner in which this
conference is moderated, send mail to the moderators; do not
discuss it in the conference. Use SHOW MODERATORS to see the
current list of moderators.
The moderators job, voluntary and unpaid, is to make sure that the benefit of
this file remains available to Digital employees. We do the best we can with
the time we have available; we strive for consistency in applying the rules and
our judgement but we cannot guarantee it. Each situation is dealt with in its
own context, and the moderators' decision is final, as we are ultimately
responsible for the contents of this conference.
Use common sense, maturity and compassion.
