821.0. "East vs. West" by OLDTMR::FOX () Tue Aug 18 1992 09:47

After living on the left coast (CA) for a while, got a little fed
up with the singles dating scene. Got to drive this, got to wear
that...Women seemed so finicky and not to be taken seriously. Now
my company sends me to the other side of the continent, ie the
"right" coast or New England. Despite what I've been told, seems
the same thing occurs with the singles scene here. Got to be from
this town, go to this school, be this tall, grow up in a polished
upbringing..etc. Really sucks, can't win in either situation. Any
discussion on the East vs West dating scene?

What makes you so sure the problem is the location and "the women"? :-)

"Lookin' for love in all the wrong places"?
What about your standards? What are you looking for? Back
in my dating days I quickly found out that the glitter of
those that you describe was mostly on the outside. There's
a note in here ( _mn_ ) that talks about dating "knockouts".
       You might find it interesting.

I think dating is like any other human activity; a lot of what you get
out of it depends on what you put into it, attitude-wise,
expectation-wise, etc. If you (the generic "you") concentrate on how
much money either you or potential dates make, then you will wind up
dating people to whom money is important (to use just one example).
There are people on both coasts and all across the USofA to whom
superficial stuff is important; just as there are genuine, warm, caring
people. Depends on what you're looking for, and where you're looking,
    what you find.

I don't do the "singles scene" (bars, etc.).

I generally find common interest groups and lo and behold they have
WIDELY divergent standards from the bar crowd (to my delight).

Hmmm. "the dating scene" .. a problem from the very start. There IS
no 'scene', only people and their pastimes.

Wherever you go, there you are. Hang out at the meat market, that's
what you get. Get a hobby. Join a hiking club. Learn an instrument
or a language. Be interested and committed. Want a quality woman ?
    Be a quality guy !

    Just a giggle...

According to a radio report I heard this morning, the first annual
International Singles' Convention was held this week in Atlantic City.
Organizers expected 100,000 people to show up, but there were only 12.
    Not 12,000. 12 people.
