737.0. "The Manly Handshake topic" by PENUTS::HNELSON (Hoyt 275-3407 C/RDB/SQL/X/Motif) Fri Jan 24 1992 08:57

    I'm all choked up (sob!) about leaving DEC and the MENNOTES community,
    and wanted to express it in a manner suitable to the tenor of this
    group. I therefore extend to all my MENNOTES friends of all genders,
    sexual orientations, and shades of political correctness:

                 <<<<< Fiiiiiirrrrrrmmmmmm handshake >>>>>

    I hope that you all will use this topic to extend warmth and support to
    each other. I could ask for no better legacy.

    See you around!

    I bet a bunch of the scalawags around here won't believe me, but
    there isn't a one of them I wouldn't miss if they left. Good luck,
    again.

    Yeah, Herb, I'd even miss you. I gotta have someone to bounce off of.
    I don't know why you felt you needed to apologize to Hoyt.

    I was being sincere, Hoyt, regardless of what Herb thinks.

    I felt I needed to apologize to Hoyt because I didn't want to muck up
    HIS note with acrimony between me and you. A processing topic would be
    great for that.

737.5Now shake hands, you guys!PENUTS::HNELSONHoyt 275-3407 C/RDB/SQL/X/MotifFri Jan 24 1992 10:014
    This is the handshake topic, guys, a place for folks to come together
    and be cordial!

    No protestations of sincerety required, Vick, nor apologies, Herb.

 Consider this a firm handshake, a slap on the back, and a few words of
wisdom to help you on your journey. :-)

    I think this is a situation where a woman might find an electronic hug
    (or a phone call, or private mail) useful.

    I don't know how to give a hug, and if I did know how to give one I
    don't think you would accept one and I don't think either one of us
    would feel comfortable about such a hug being transmitted.

    On the other hand, if you knew a woman you trusted, and SHE gave you
    such a hug, might be a different matter. (would be for me)

    Herb, I know you and I have had a number of unpleasant skirmishes, but
    I gotta say, in recent months you've shown a non-vicious side of
    youself in notes that people who know you told me you've always had "in
    person". Any chance of readjusting our interface to non-bitter-
    enmity so you won't mind when I compliment you?

    (Sorry to interrupt the usual frolicks, but Herb and I are officially
    "not speaking" in mail... (: >,)
