    interesting story on T.V last night from 9p.m.-11p.m.
    
    A boy of 17 on trial for murdering his father who had been physically
    abusing the boy and his mother for years. Mother would not testify, was
    being kept emotionally stable in a mental hospital.
    When father was beating him and her, mother told father that nobody 
    had been sleeping with her except son.
    Turns out the boy had been having sex with his mother since he was 8.
    Father went out got drunk, came home, boy shot him.
    He was defended by two lawyers. The man had been incested by _his_
    mother for a number of years up till 16 or so when she died under
    'mysterious circumstances' (maybe i just didn't catch it)

    I don't know whether it was based on fact. Had it been, I think
    something would have been said at the end.
    
    The title tells the most important theme. That both the boy and the man
    had to acknowledge and face up to their mothers' incest of them. That
    neither of them could have peace until they did. In the boys' case it
    was acknowledging the incest that resulted in a not-guilty
    (self-defense, or justifiable homicide?) verdict. A guilty verdict held
    out the promise of him being handed from con to con raped by each in
    turn.
    By facing HIS incestuous past the 'promise' was held out that the man
    (Benjamin Harrison ? Gonzo Bates?) would in the future be able to have
    a mature relationship with the nice lady lawyer.

    This show was very disturbing and the acting was excellent, especially
    the man lawyer and the boy. The male lawyer's mother had committed
    suicide when the lawyer (then 16) went to his prom with a date. He felt
    guilty about that for most of the show until the scene at the cemetery,
    I guess.
    
    One comment I have for the native-born Americans: why does the term
    "motherf***er" exist and not "fatherf***er"???

    Jorge, you finally said somthing I agree with! :-) (Actually you have
    said alot that I agree with).  I want to expand your question a little
    bit.  Why do we have to have derogatory terms like that at all?

	Because it has utility.  It refers to the Oedipus Complex 
	which is a standard personality type.  It's overused as an 
	insult.  Derogatory?  Nothing verbal is derogatory unless 
	you choose to allow it to be.
