| Wouldn't it be much BETTER find those things through people themselves?
Is it better reading a certain quality in a person thru a book or thru
THAT person's eyes? if we don't want to bother to find those things why
to bother to even date?
I think that a book, video, can never do justice to a person
itself... it de-mistifyes the whole purpose...

When I was single I met men in health clubs, church and work. Usually
somehow, (I tend to talk alot), we'd get talking and things'd go from
there. So, there's a couple of suggestions. However, if you're a quiet
person, then I think it'd be really difficult to meet people.
I saw something on the news about those video dating services and I
thought they looked good. This first date from one of those is probably
really tough. I mean what do you say, "so you look good on videotape"?
But at least you know they think you're cute and they like at least a
few things that you like. If I was male and single, I'd try a video
dating service.
I still think that your best bet is to get involved in the community
that you're in. Especially political stuff.
Happy Hunting!!

oops, I though you were male. I still think the video dating service
is a good idea. I'd just be really sure to meet the guys a couple of
times in public.
sorry!

| I can recommend SINGLES. I met several very nice women through that
file, and dated some of them, even though they were literally across
the country from where I lived.
In fact, I met my wife in SINGLES. We corresponded for about six
months, using VAXmail, PHONE, etc. before we actually met face-to-face.
By the time that happened, we were already good friends. Then we
became lovers and I moved to where she lived.
SINGLES works pretty well, in my book!

499.7 | Depends what your judging criteria is and how good you judge. | SELECT::APODACA | That'll be...just fine. | Tue Sep 04 1990 17:27 | 21 |
| I'd recommend Singles too. although nothing massive blossomed from it,
and I saw some notes that made me recall those "personal" ads in
newspapers, I will say that honest begat honest (I guess), and I did
end up meeting someone who'd I consider one of my best friends (even if
he doesn't know it :).
If you're honest about yourself, and what you're looking for, I think
it might be among the best approaches.
Video dating seems a little harder to judge (somehow, the written word
seems easier). If you're looking for LOOKS, video dating certainly
helps in that respect. If you're looking for more than just looks, the
written medium would probably help more -- you learn more about the
person before you get that "first impression turn on/off" reaction for
physical appearance. I've found that if you know enough of the
*person*, the looks become rather trivial (well, we're not talking
Elephant man here, but you know what I mean).
Good luck,
kim
