| Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Please STOP USING CAPS!
FWIW- To the people who claim 'cow chips,' please allow our new visitor to
express his views without fear of a bovine ordure attack. He has related a
very personal experience. That his experience differs from that of many others
is of no consequence; he still has a right to his opinion and I, for one, like
to hear ALL of the opinions. I believe the technique we have seen to discredit
Mr. Laster is known as "invalidating" elsewhere on the net. Disagree if you
wish, but allow each person to be heard.

To the base noter I say, just having the "CUT" will not
effect your sexual performance. If it did, then you do
have grounds for a suit, this means the operation wasn't
done correctly. Also, what makes you think that have the
operation reversed will also reverse the effects you are
having? If the doctor did cut a nerve (which he shouldn't
have, BTW) then there is no way he can repair that damage.
As I understand it (which may not be 100% correct), once
nerve damage is done it's done, period.
I've had mine for over 18 years and have never had one
bit of trouble with sexual performance. If anything I'd
have to say it helped take the pressure off by my knowing
I won't become a daddy again.
See another doctor and ask him about your problem, it could
very well be some scar tissue pressing against the nerves or
something easily correctable.
Best wishes,

Author: Please use lower case, it reads better.
I can't speak for the procedure first hand, but....
The operation is only supposed to block delivery of sperm. Your
plumbing was changed not the wiring.
Done wrong I'll believe almost anything, including infection, sloppy
cutting, or who knows. FYI I know several people that felt it was
the right choice, and also went fishing the same day(no unusual
side effects).
It is possibly the closest thing to an attack on ones maleness,
and thus can have some real effects on the persona.
Get help, if there is a phsyical problem don't delay it most likely
won't get better on its own. The sooner you take action the better.
Oh yes, check other notes, the procedure is reversable (not 100%,
of the time, sorry). Above all get another opinion about the problem.
Hope everything works out, john

| I had it done 15 years ago. It took about an hour but 45 mins of
that was getting into the emergency room and being shaved. I went
home and picked up a lazyboy rocker and carried it upstairs to the
airconditioner. I proceeded to sit on ice for a few hours for the
swelling. The next day I got on my motorcycle and went to work.
There is nothing wrong with the procedure itself. There may be
something wrong with the way some doctors implement it. And there
may be something wrong with the way some recipients perceive it.
You need to research those two areas. Get up and get moving.

328.12 | My understanding of nerves | CIMBAD::WALTON | | Fri Mar 10 1989 11:53 | 13 |
| As I understood it, the VAS DEFFERENCE was the object which was
cut/cauterized in a vasectomy and this organ, like any other, has
no nerve endings in and of itself.
Consequently, the pain was in the cutting through the scrotum and
surrounding tissue, which was healed, not cauterized. THe nerves
will heal.
If this were not the case, most women would lose all interest in
sex after the first natural childbirth :-).

328.15 | a self-fulfilling prophesy? | DPDMAI::BEAN | why beep? i'm already moving! | Sun Mar 12 1989 16:32 | 21 |
| it's really unfortunate that the author of .0 had such an experience.
after i had my vasectomy, my sex life improved dramatically...didn't
have to wear condoms to prevent pregnancy (after 6 kids...you don't
take risks!)...and of course the "feeling" actually improved, as
one might suspect.
without further knowledge.....it might be impossible to determine
why the .0 author "lost" feeling... but, from the base note, it
appears that in his discussions with others (including the electrician)
he was "expecting" a loss of feeling....
then, he had the operation...which is so common and so simple...as
to make me wonder if the physician goofed, or if perhaps our friend
(.0 author) isn't actually suffering from a "loss" he inflicts on
himself...with his expectations.
sort of a "self-fulfilling prophesy"
just a thought.

328.16 | Seek advice. | PELKEY::PELKEY | | Wed Mar 29 1989 14:12 | 30 |
| I know I'm coming into this discussion a little late...
When I had mine, (5 years ago) I had it done by a practicing
experienced surgeon who was very clear in stating that "They're
several styles of operations, some of them unsucessful, some new
and not yet accepted by him, and some tested, and used for years..
etc etc..."
He said and I'll try to quote him directly because these
words made an impression on me..
"The operation was viewed as 'hard to reverse'. But nothing should change
physically except you can no longer reproduce. A change in the decsion
to be sterile should be the only reason for reveral considerations...
Discomfort, and pain should be temporary, [here's the important part]
and if discomfort, pain, or physicall limitiations continue after two to
three weeks, something was done worng, or something has gone wrong
with the healing process"
I've had no problems, and I also urge to author of this note to
seek medical counsil. It has improved our sex life, and has not
taken away from it. I only experienced several days of discomfort,
and for me, the real discomfort was due to sticthes, not the operation
itself.
do yourself a favor, don't blame your doctor without knowing the
facts, but really, GO GET HELP ! You and your SO deserve to enjoy sex
again.
