Knowing the media types full well by now, I would take anything
they spout with a huge grain of salt. American media personnel,
are, with few exceptions, the biggest B.S. artists outside the Kremlin
these days, and bring to mind the old carnival barkers and snake
oil salesmen from years long past...anything to make a quick buck
off the gullible rubes in the crowd. Pepsi, of course, advertises
in the same media, and so we have yet another case of the tail wagging
the dog.
Mike and Robin are probably laughing all the way to the bank,
and if things didn't last forever, I'm sure Mike could afford to
part with a few dozen million and go on to snap towels with some
other beautiful actress.
I would, however, gladly pay good, hard-earned American cash
to see Mike Tyson take on a whole string of sparring partners from
among the ranks of the exalted media wizards. (particulary the ones
who are always whining about how terrible the sport of boxing is...)

259.19 | Marriage isn't a lifetime commitment in Hollywood | PLEXUS::V5REGISTRAR | | Tue Aug 16 1988 19:29 | 20 |
| It's hard to speculate why people get married. What may seem so
tawdry and shallow to us may really be something serious to those
involved. Keep in mind that a lot of these people don't have both
feet on the ground to begin with. Stardom is a heavy thing to bear,
even when you've worked your whole life for it. How many people
do you know that could become "instant celebrities" (meaning their
picture is in The Star at least bi-weekly) and still retain their
same set of values and most of all, their humility. It would take
a hell of a person to keep their wits about them in the land of
"yes-men." Think about it, it's all so plastic. How can someone
even attempt to keep their head.
I think that the celebrity gets to them. They can't tell the
difference from what's real and what's plastic. These marriages
aren't supposed to be made in heaven. Tyson's not Mr. Right to
Robin Givens, he's Mr. Right-Now. Isn't that the way Hollywood
works? Look at Liz Taylor, the Gabors, just about all of the big
stars.

If two people get married without the *intention* of making a lifetime
commitment, regardless of whether it lasts a lifetime or not, then they
don't have any business getting married. Taking marriage lightly is
what we see many, many couples in Hollywood (and the sports world)
doing today.

that some of the 'Black Pack' kids got. She was known by face but
not by name.
Tyson's fame launched her into the limelight by getting her
a spot in the Diet Pepsi commercials and of course with Barbara
Walters. Without him she'd still be "that cute black girl" on Head
of the Class.
Hopefully she'll get a divorce and they won't have to split lickety.

I think you can get a divorce almost anywhere. That's how
people get away with the quickie Mexican divorces.
I think she picked California because of their record of awarding
high amounts to women who were married only a short time. Some
other states tend to require that the marriage last long enough
for her to become accostomed to the life style afforded by the
husband's income.

Just off the CNN news:
Givens has dropped lawyer Mitchelson(sp). Her new lawyer thinks they
can settle out of court. Why she dropped Mitchelson isn't known.
Tyson is going for an annulment on the grounds that he was "mislead" by
Given's mother, that she had told Tyson that Robin was 3 1/2 months
pregnant, three weeks before the wedding. Tyson's advisors are telling
him to go for an annulment leaving no grounds for any type of settlement.
Givens had filed in California where the courts 'do' award property being
divided, 50/50. Again, CNN said that Tyson's fortune is estimated at
50 million dollars.
A Newsnight 900 poll asked the question, "Should Mike Tyson be given an
annulment of his marriage to Robin Givens?"
Results were: YES = 92%
NO = 8%
Of course, this poll proves nothing, except that the callers, obviously
feel that Givens doesn't deserve Mike's money.

Robin probably dropped Mitchelson because he is due to appear
before the Bar Assocciation soon to face charges of molesting his
female divorce clients. I think I saw a show about that not too
long ago. For some reason, the DA would not prosecute the cases,
but the Bar Association is listening to the alleged victims.
Robin probably figured that she doesn't need any more sleaze
on her side than she herself provides.

On "Entertainment Tonight" last night, they did a profile on
Mike and Robin. Seems there is a 'temporary' replacement for Robin
on "Head of The Class". It's Richard Pryor's daughter and how temporary
depends on "the outcome of the divorce". I'm not sure what they
mean by that, but my guess is that if Robin gets enough of Mike's
money, she might not go back to Hollywood. (she wouldn't have to!)

I would guess that with all the bad publicity that she has been

She is trying to trick Mike into taking her back for a while....

I'm interested. If Robin takes half of Mike's money, especially
after just 8 or 9 months, then in my opinion, that's an awful crime.
For the average working person that has been through a divorce and
been ripped by the courts with their 'traditional laws,' this should
be interesting to them/us as well. This type is injustice must be
stopped. Perhaps the national attention that the Tyson's are getting
is a *plus* for this all of us.
Maybe, if she doesn't get anything, one day we can see "fairness"
trickle down through the courts for the "little people" as well.
Maybe this could start a trend, although, I won't hold my breath.
