6086.0. "Customer's Windows NT 4.0 Server slow..." by CHOWDA::GLICKMAN (writing from Newport,RI) Fri Jun 06 1997 07:43

    Looking for some pointers here:

Customer set up a Windows NT 4.0 Server on Pentium 166, 24 MB mem and
    a 2GB hard drive (1 partition FAT).

    Logon is slow.

Bringing up Network Neighborhood he tells me takes close to 2 minutes
    see other nodes.

Explorer takes at least a minute to come up.

CPU is loafing at 4-8% utilized. Memory is 26588K/40240K.

I noticed he installed DHCP Manager, DNS Manager, License Manager,
Migration Tools for Netware. None of which I think he needs.

He also has Office installed (no one is using) among several other
    applications.

He is using a BACKPACK Cdrom, External modem and an HP LaserJet 4
    printer.

He would like to see better performance and use this Server for
    printing and RAS dialin access.

I thought about having him re-install Windows NT 4.0 but I thought
I would check in here for other thoughts. Any other clues I can
get by troubleshooting this any further? What tools do I use?

I didn't check out the Pagefile size but I can...

Appreciating any assistance with this matter.

    Thanks.

Anyone running NT Server on 24MB should not be complaining about slow
    performance! Just my opinion.
