6081.0. "ncr 53c810 scsi driver upgrade 3.51 to 4.0" by NEWVAX::RAK () Thu Jun 05 1997 11:34

    I need to upgrade NT workstation 3.51 to 4.0 on a DECpc 566.
    The PC has a NCR PCI 53c810 SCSI controller.

    Installation setup requests I:
    (a.) provide a diskette from manufacture with appropriate drivers or
    (b.) select driver from a list that includes NCR 53c710, but not
    53c810.

    I tried (a.) with the old OEM disk (nt 3.1?) and it barfed.

    Any ideas on where to obtain a diskette with the appropriate scsi driver?

    Setup.txt indicates that this doesn't occur with a fresh installation,
    just a 3.51 upgrade, so the raw material is probably on the CD.

6081.1try Symbios Logic 810ANGST::legoe.zko.dec.com::angst.zko.dec.com::marshallFri Jun 06 1997 05:2912
The driver for the NCR 810 is on the standard NT CD-ROM and NT should
detect the scsi controller if the machine is working correctly. I
used to have a DECpc XL 466 with an onboard NCR 810 chip and at home
I currently have a system with an ASUS SC200 which is built around
this chip. NT has detected both.

There is one possible point of confusion. After NCR was taken over
by AT&T the semiconductor division, which makes these chips was
spun off and is now know as Symbios Logic. NT 4.0 identifies the
810 chip as a Symbios Logic 810, not as an NCR 810.
