This is both a HW and SW question, so here goes. Customer has a large UPS (w/battery backup) and several servers. How do you have all the servers get notified and shutdown if the batteries start to go dead? While this may sound like a trivial question, my customer and I thot about this for quite a while before not having a good answer come to mind. All suggestions, including software based messages, are welcome... Mark

Most large UPS these days, including the ones we sell have a network interface and agents for our operating systems that get their outage info over the network. The serial connections are pretty old hat. FJP |
