6067.0. "cannot find the file idlist" by FELIKS::PARACCHI (Roberto, @mln http://feliks.mln.dec.com/home.html) Tue Jun 03 1997 02:55
Pls. an Help.
Hello,
After a reboot of my gelebris glst ( O.S. Windows NT 4.0 sp2 )
I have logon successful but my desktop come up incomplete; only
"my computer, network neighborhood, recycle bin, netscape communicator"
and standard background.
The "Netscape communicator" shortcut on desktop come from
C:\WINNT\profile\all users\desktop but nothings come up from my
desktop . And I'm loging with my username and password.
There is a error message at login :
" cannot find the file '/idlist,:88:86,' (or one of its component).
Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries
are available "
Then I can manage the system.
The strange behaviour is that if I logoff and logon again this logon do not
complete, only image bakground. The task manager has not run application.
I need to do a restart every time I want login again.
I'm wait your help before do some actions.
Thanks
Roberto.
N.B.
The error : "cannot find the file '/idlist,88:86,'... change, sometime
is 88:84 and other 84:84..

It sounds like something might have gotten corrupted. You don't
indicate what may have happened to the system before the reboot, so it
would only be a wild guess as to what happened.
Have you done a 'fix' install which copies from the distribution
medium the original distribution file for any file which has changed?
It does require that you reapply SP2 when you are done. You also have
to watch to make sure you don't overwrite the Registry, though I
believe there is a question up front about that.
