6055.0. "Powerstorm 4D40T" by LAOS01::UDICK (It can't be too easy to use ...) Wed May 28 1997 18:22

I am running Windows NT 4.0 SP3 and I installed the powerstorm 4d40T
graphics card. I pulled the pwrstr40.zip off of the Digital home page.

I am pretty sure that I have the right driver. After installing the
driver I can boot to VGA mode but when going to normal driver mode I
get the mouse showing up with the standard aqua background and then the
    system hangs.

The install / upgrade instructions say to install the card after
upgrading the drivers. Does that matter.

The card is supposed to have 32 MB of memory but is only showing 16 MB
    in the control panel.

    Thanks for pointers,

    Steve

PS - Any other note file where I should post this? Is there a
powerstorm or Intel Personal workstation notes file?

Alpha or Intel driver? What web pointer?
Try www.service.digital.com/open3d/ or internally via ftp from

nt3d.zko.dec.com
cd cateyes\nt40\i386

	for the intel version: cei38642.zip

cd cateyes\nt40\alpha

	for the alpha version: ce-nt42ssb.zip

The latest driver is V4.2.

What kind of system are you installing on?

If you install the card first, the system probably would come up
but only in VGA mode and then you could install the driver.

If you install the drivers first, the system still would come up
in VGA mode since the drivers won't be able to find the card until
you shut down and stick it in.

This is a good as any. You can also try: bgsdev::open3d
or the Alphastation or Xl_personal_workstation conferences.

6055.3Still not working. How to troubleshoot?LAOS01::UDICKIt can't be too easy to use ...Mon Jun 02 1997 14:2220
We have been working on this for 2 days now. No Joy!!

We have the riser card that shipped with the Powerstrom card.

Integraph indicated that they had a new driver for that card but that
it would not work with the Digital version of the card.

I have 32 MB of Texture memory on the card. It works Ok in VGA mode
(Seems slower than the S3 Card that used to be there).

Checked the registery and the S3 is all gone.

With the driver new driver installed I get the mouse pointer and then
    it hangs.

    Any trouble shooting suggestions,

    Thanks,

    Steve
6055.4Some thoughts...PKOPW1::DOTYRuss Doty, Graphics and MultimediaTue Jun 03 1997 09:5315
    1. Have you installed the PCI riser that came with the PowerStorm
    4D40T?

    2. Have you installed NT 4.0 and Service Pack 1?

    3. Can you provide the exact version number of the PowerStorm driver
    you are using?

    5. Did the driver install correctly?

    6. Do you have any way to try another PowerStorm 4DT card (to see if
    the problem might be hardware)?

    7. Can you try the 4D40T in an Alpha workstation, to verify that it
    works?
