6038.0. "domain.ini is being rewritten - why?" by TAVEIS::RONEN () Sun May 25 1997 01:05
Hi
I am posting this question here since the SMS notes file does not seem
to be very active...
I am involved in an installation of sms on a customer site.
The customer would like the default options on the remote control group
to be customized so he would not have to edit each sms.ini file
manually.
As far as I know, the way to do it is to edit DOMAIN.INI in the
logon.srv directory.
But, within 5 seconds after saving the domain.ini file, the
SMS_SITE_MAINTENANCE service restore the file to its default.
I have verified it by changing the security setting for the file for
the admin group to read only, and I see the following error in the log
file:
"could copy the temp domain._n_file to domain.ini"
1. Is it normal behaviour?
2. if yes, what is the correct way to change setting like remote help
options, default tranport for remote control etc. CENTRALLY?

| As far as I know, you cannot effect changes in the default client configuration
by editing DOMAIN.INI. You've already seen why. This is normal behaviour for
SMS.
All of the solutions I've seen proposed have involved programatically editing
the SMS.INI file (via Package Command Manager or some other mechanism) after the
initial client installation.
