6034.0. "Conflict between the ATAPI and PIIXIDE drivers on NT 4.0" by ALLVAX::HARDING (Indecision is the key to flexibility) Thu May 22 1997 14:44

I am having a proble with a Celebris GL running Windows NT 4.0
After the system is booted I see an entry in the event logger
about the piixide driver being in conflict with another driver
which seems to be atapi driver.

The mesage in the event logger is:

A conflict has been detected between two drivers which claimed
two overlapping io port areas.

In Windows NT diagnostics under the atapi driver is see it
with two enteries

input/output range 01f0 - 01f7 IRQ 14
and
input/output range 0170 - 0177 IRQ 15

Under SCSI adapters I see that it is used to drive
scsi adapter 0 which is where the cdrom is located and
scsi adapter 1 which is where the hard hard disks are located.

What is also see is that both the piixide and the atapi drivers,
the atapi driver showing started and the piixide not started.

Should I be removing or disabling one of these drivers from the system?

6034.1atapi makes an EIDE bus look like a scsi bus to NTKEIKI::WHITEMIN(2,FWIW)Thu May 22 1997 18:358

Botht eh Atapi and the PiixIDE drivers try to control the primary
and secondary EIDE buses. Luckily at least one wins:-).

Go ahead and remove the PIIXIDE driver. I was told there were bugs
    in it anyway.
