    Service Pack 3 includes the OOB fix. Since it was added literally at
    the last minute (it wasn't in my Release Candidate kit), the documentation
    was not updated. It also includes security fixes for the issues MWC
    called the "RedButton Bug".

6009.4Considerations for NT4.0 SP3 ...OTOU01::MAINSystems Integration-Canada,621-5078Sat May 17 1997 09:5119

    As a suggestion, even though this SP went through some additional
    testing, it does contain a fair amount of new functionality, so you may
    want to consider:

    - review release notes to understand all the issues
    - remember that 3rd party products (disk defrag, quota, etc) may not
      support SP3 for some time after this release.
    - make new ERD (RDISK/S) before applying SP and label accordingly.
    - full backup to tape
    - apply SP according to release notes. Ensure you choose the uninstall
      option. Reboot.
    - check out your 3rd party and other app's
    - if all ok, full backup to tape
    - make new ERD (RDISK/S) and label

	I have since received confirmation that the OOB fix is in SP3. It
  was added at the last moment, so they didn't have time to document it, a
  poor excuse since the readme was separate from the SP3 downloadable. There
  is also now an Alpha OOB fix available for NT 3.51 SP5.

6009.6Every software update will give new bugs...HLFS00::ERIC_SEric Sonneveld MCS - B.O. IS HollandMon May 19 1997 23:416
I got a long list of new problems after installing sp3 and removed when
deinstalling SP3. It comes from a mailing list from Sunbelt NTtools.
Bottomline: be aware a SP will like any other change to software introduce new
bugs.

6009.7NT 4.0 SP 3 vs. IE 3.02 JavaPYRO::RONRon S. van ZuylenTue May 20 1997 02:1917
    There have been more frequent reports of Internet Explorer 3.02 hangs
    with Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 installed... and they seem to be
    related to the Java VM since IE normally freezes while executing web
    Java applets. Re-installing IE 3.02 does not seem to help.

    For the most part, they've been connected to extremely high color depth
    settings on Matrox MGA video adapters. Lowering the video color palette
    from the maximum of 32-bit (True Color+) to 24-bit (traditional True
    Color; 16.7 million) -- or lower -- resolves the problem for many.

    (There were similar IE applet hangs reported before SP 3... but far less
    often.)

    Of course, your mileage may vary. We'll see what happens once
    Microsoft takes a closer look. A patch for IE 3.02? Stay tuned.

	Thanks. It turns out that the OOB fix was not adequate and they've
  now rereleased a new version of the OOB fix for the following NT Versions:

	NT 4.0 SP3 Intel and Alpha
	NT 4.0 SP2  Intel
	NT 3.51 SP5 Intel and Alpha

	I'm following up on where the Alpha version on NT 4.0 SP2 is.
   I'm pulling these kits and they will also shortly be available from the
   IBG Software Distribution Server at URL:

http://ibgzko.zko.dec.com/sdk/

   in the Miscellaneous Kits area.
