5998.0. "How to move NT system disk ?" by ONOIS1::DARAS () Mon May 12 1997 11:24

    	Hi all,

How to move Windows/NT system disk (Fat partiton and NTFS
partition) from one disk to another disk ?

The system is an AS1000 with Windows/NT 3.51
The Windows/NT system disk is actually on the internal SCSI.
The new system disk will be on a KZPSC controller.
The disk array will be splitted.

Is NT backup a good way to do this ?
What about the registry on a new system device ?

       Thanks
       Didier D.

The easiest way would be to create a software mirror set. Then when
the disks are mirrored, break the mirror set and modify the boot
information so that the system looks at the new location for the
	bootable system disk.

    Mirror, break strategy.

True, but isn't that for NT server only tho?

True, it would be for server only. I guess I made an assumption when
I saw it was on an AS1000 and that it was going to include a RAID
controller. Though that does not mean server, I see server running
in that environment 99 times out of 100.

The last time I looked (just now, in the SOC) AS1000A only supports Windows NT
Server. If you can't create a mirror, you're running an unsupported
configuration.
