5996.0. "Internet Explorer 3.02 installation problem" by BHAJEE::JAERVINEN (Ora, the Old Rural Amateur) Mon May 12 1997 06:23

I have trouble installing Microsoft Internet Excluder 3.02 on Windows
    NT workstation 4.0 (SP1).

Towards the end, the installation fails with the message box "An error
occurred while adding registry entries to the Operating System".

Clicking OK (the only choice) here brings up the next warning "There
was an error during the setup process. Either the user pressed cancel
or there was not enough disk space. installation failed."

Well, I definitely didn't press cancel, and the system partition has
~27MB free, the application partition where IE itself should go has
~73MB. Current registry size is 7MB, maximum is set to 16MB.

I've tried to clean up and grudge left in the registry from previous
installations but it doesn't seem to help either.

I wouldn't bother with IE but the ****** April edition of Developer's
    library wants to have it...

We have seen this problem on at least 2 other systems; 1 Alpha and 1 Intel.
I have reported the problem to Microsoft. They haven't a clue. Apparently
there is no debugging/trace mechanism built in either. I stepped through
the install program and found the key that it was dying on but couldn't
see anything that was obviously wrong. I have also seen this problem while
trying to install MS exchange.

If anyone ever figures out what is going on I'd <<REALLY>> like to know.

Yeah, the error messages are really helpful... and now I'm stuck with
an unusable MSDN library CD, for which I've paid good money. Sigh. I
guess I'll try another machine (but I'd really prefer to run in on
    mine).

FWIW, I tried the V4 preview. It doesn't install either (but the error
    message is even terser).

I've downloaded ie 3.02 on an alpha running WNT V4.0 workstation
and had no problems...maybe the file on the cd is bad???

do you get the same results if you install from network download??
