Hi all, A customer of mine has a requirement to disable floppy and CDROM access from his users. Two problems: 1. He needs access to both floppy and CDROM as administrator 2. These are high availability systems so no chance of reboot to enable / disable. I've tried setting the ACL on the appropriate HARDWARE and SYSTEM registry entries. Tried disabling the driver in DEVICEs / CONTROL PANEL, but that won't then allow you to stop /start the floppy or CDROM. This is required on NTWS and NTS V4.0. Any ideas? Jon.

There is a product called ICON-HIDEIT that lets the admin lock off various parts of the system; CD, floppy, modem, etc. They go so far as to claim, "Protection from all viruses, known and unknown." When pressed, the answer is, "if you can't load stuff from floppy or the net, you won't get a virus." Yeah. \john | |||||

Powering the system down and leaving it that way is even more effective. |
