You can start/stop services on a remote systems with "server manager".
You can create users on a remote systems with "user manager".

For things you cannot do remotely, you may need a product such as
    RemDesk.

You can also install the server tools (User MGR, Server MGR, etc)
on non-NT clients such as WIN95 and WFW. These tools will allow
you to remote manage many functions from different desktop platforms.

What kind of Server tools? Is the product?

    Thanks in advance.

re .4: The serve tools mentioned are on th Windows NT server CD. They
can be installed on another workstation or server to perform certain
management tasks in a domain (remotely).

Remdesk is not a Digital product. It used to be availabe for free -
don't know if it is still the case (see
www.fim.uni-linz.ac/at/win32/remdesk.htm). There are plenty of similar
commercial products (I think PCanywhere was mentioned before).

Remote Desktop is (now) a product of MacAfee. Try their web page.
(The product is, well, pretty much regarded worst in class in the
cheesy "paint the screen remotely" utility world. But if you want
to give it a swing...) Yes, PC-Anywhere 32 is one of the other
products. Microsoft's SMS also has this capability.

The Windows NT Server Manager, User Manager and Event Viewer can also
be run on Windows 95... also included on the NT Server CD-ROM.

I'd recommend a some reading investment (manuals, resource kit,
Microsoft web pages, etc.) or maybe some training... the question about
"remote NT management" is extremely wide.

Where can I get the reference site for remote management under WNT?

I have DECServer 700 + HX5133 under WNT 4.x. Will be NT cluster next
month. PCanyware & Remote DeskTop or others?

    Thanks very much

Another very useful remote product is Remotely Possible by Avalan.
They have an Alpha version as well as Intel.

Also, SMS 1.2 gives you the ability to remotely manage WNT machines
    as well as WIN clients.

FWIW, I think the NT remote management is SMS is also based om
    Remdesk...

Sorry, SMS 1.2 doesn't use any technology from Remote Desktop.
(Thankfully.) I think they bought some code from the folks that
develop Remotely Possible (Avalan?), which is a pretty darn good
product. And please don't call this "remote management"... it's
    more like "remote control". :-)

5945.11WebAdmin kit as wellBBO010::TILBYSun Apr 27 1997 21:157
Folks,

don't forget the Web-based admin kit for Windows NT. Its available somewhere on
the Microsoft Website (but it does require the use of IIS if I remember
correctly) and its still a technology preview (I think). Its good for basic
user and service admin though and there's an Alpha version for good measure.
