I have an AlphaStation 500/400 running NT4.0 (now) SP2. This weekend, My Alpha crashed. After rebooting, I find that all sound has been reduced to a pair of clicks that coincide with the beginng and end of a sound event. I attempt to reinstall the Windows Sound System, without luck. I updated to SP2, just in case there was a new sndsys32.dll floating around. When I attempt to re-install the driver, I am prompted for with the following defaults: DMA1, I/O 530, IRQ 11. Are these correct? There is no mention of the sound card in the AlphaStation manual. Any clues? Suggestions? [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

5908.1 | Maybe it's a hardware problem? | STAR::COOK | Just say NO to that AccViO! - Java!!! | Thu May 01 1997 13:59 | 10 |
Hmmm...I wonder if it could be a hardware failure? Fwiw, I inherited an AlphaStation 255/233Mhz (on which OpenVMS is installed/running). The bell wasn't working, so I opened the covers and noticed that the speaker connector wasn't connected. After re-inserting the speaker-connector back onto the motherboard, all I got for my trouble was some steady clicks, about a half-second apart. (See note 1941 in WRKSYS::ALPHASTATION conference for details.) Dave |
