5899.0. "WNT V4.0 RAS connection hangs!" by CSC32::R_IVERS () Thu Apr 10 1997 15:01
I have an AlphaStation 255 that I am having trouble with. I have been
using it for several months now, dialing into a RAS server. This past
weekend, I was uploading a file via FTP. I lost my connection for some
reason. Now when I connect to the RAS server, if I do anything more
than just simple terminal windows(low speed stuff), the RAS connection
locks up. I.E. if I try to FTP a file the received byte count just
freezes. I do not loose my connection to the RAS server, but the
network connection is dead. I have to reboot to restablish the
connection.
I have re-installed WNT 4.0 from the ground up, no help. I have checked
and re-checked my network parameters, no help. I moved the modem to a
different machine and it works fine. I have had several people look
into this with no help, I AM STUMPED!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions why a system that has been working
fine for several months would suddenly act like this. As long as I do
things that don't require much data transfer, I'm fine. But, as soon as
I push the connection to higher speeds with a download for example, it
locks.
Any ideas?
Helpless!

| Have you tried another phone line or another system using the same phone
line? Maybe something has changed on the telco side of the connection
that will not support the traffic? There is no other explanation that
make any sense...

Tom
